After spending a significant amount of time using both the ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module (MPM) and the Podium Advanced Paddle Module (APM) on Fanatec wheels, I can say that while they look similar on paper, the real difference only becomes clear once you actually race with them.

Both upgrades dramatically improve shifting feel compared to standard paddle shifters, but they are clearly designed for two very different types of sim racers.

Build Quality & First Impressions

The ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module feels like a solid, well-made upgrade the moment I mounted it. The aluminum paddles are sturdy, the magnetic click is sharp, and nothing feels cheap or flexible. It immediately delivers that “proper sim racing hardware” feeling without going overboard.

The Podium Advanced Paddle Module, on the other hand, feels like a premium motorsport component. The tolerances are tighter, the finish is more refined, and everything feels engineered for long-term, heavy use. It’s noticeably heavier and more complex, which already hints at its advanced functionality.


Shifting Feel & On-Track Experience

This is where the personality of each module becomes obvious.

With the ClubSport MPM, the magnetic resistance is strong and consistent. Every shift gives a clean, satisfying click that is easy to feel even during intense racing. During long GT or endurance sessions, I found it reliable and fatigue-free. It does exactly what I want: fast, accurate gear changes with zero distractions.

The Podium APM feels more deliberate and mechanical. The paddle throw is slightly firmer, and the feedback feels more “race car–like.” It’s not necessarily faster, but it feels more intentional. In high-downforce cars or formula-style racing, I felt more connected to the drivetrain, especially during rapid downshifts under braking.


Additional Functions & Versatility

The biggest difference is not the shift feel — it’s what else you can do.

The ClubSport MPM is purely about shifting. Two paddles. No extras. That simplicity is actually a strength if you prefer a clean wheel layout and rely on button boxes or wheel buttons for everything else.

The Podium APM adds dual-clutch paddles and extra analog inputs. For standing starts, launch control, or advanced race car simulations, this becomes a genuine advantage. Personally, I only found real value in this when driving modern GT3, formula, or prototype cars where clutch control matters.

Long-Term Use & Comfort

Over long sessions, the ClubSport MPM remains extremely comfortable. The lighter actuation force reduces finger fatigue, which I appreciated during endurance races.

The Podium APM demands more intent. It’s not uncomfortable, but it does require more deliberate input. If you race casually or do a lot of short sessions, this may feel like overkill. If you race competitively and value control precision, it starts to make sense.


Which One Would I Choose?

If I had to choose only one for everyday sim racing, I would honestly pick the ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module. It delivers 90% of the shifting satisfaction with far less complexity and cost.

However, if you:

  • care about race starts,
  • use clutch-heavy cars,
  • or want the most realistic control setup possible,

then the Podium Advanced Paddle Module clearly earns its place.
